Parkland Peace

A CREMATED REMAINS (CREMAINS) STEWARDSHIP AND SETTLEMENT CO.

I am Pamela Barnett.

I grew up near Detroit, Michigan with three sisters. As a young adult, I moved with my family to Houston, Texas, where I graduated from University of Houston. I then married and was able to share adventures countrywide with my husband for the next 24 years.

Upon his death in 2004, I pondered what to do with his cremains and the cremains of other free spirits that had been entrusted to me. Because I was then living in the lovely wilderness of southeast Arizona’s mountains, I was able to settle cremains on this estate and the adjacent Bureau of Land Management lands. I thought how wonderful it would be to release cremains for other people who do not have ready access to abundant natural lands.

I now settle cremains in Michigan, Texas, and Arizona. With trusted family and friends, I organize cremains settling sites in additional locations throughout the nation.

“Settling” Services

As your representative, a Parkland Peace officer will settle cremains in a park or estate in our nationwide
network. Cremains will be gently broadcast upon the land or water, according to your directives.
Parkland terrain will be unchanged, save for presence of the final matter that will soon blend with
nature. Burial of cremains is an option within private estates in our network.

Multiple Options

A standard settling service may be performed in respectful silence. Or, it may include messages from loved ones in the form of letters for the officer to read aloud or a recorded presentation of music and words. We provide a variety of locations ranging from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Michigan to a family farm in Texas, to a majestic mountain estate in Arizona.

Your “Parkland Peace”

“Parkland Peace” is your serenity. You’ll deserve this good feeling when you create an action plan for settling cremains. Parkland Peace officers will assist you in selecting an eternal environment. You
may choose solitary splendor, or a welcoming place in which your cremains may settle with those of
family members, friends, and pets. The parklands of our nation and states are yours. Parkland Peace will
bring you home to abundant majesty… a gathering place for your group’s ultimate togetherness.

Do a good deed for a free spirit

Closure

By authorizing a Parkland Peace officer to settle cremains in a parkland or in a park-like estate, you can help family and friends to gain closure. It may comfort them to know that your decision is to provide light, freedom and a lovely environment for the cremains.

Stability

You will be preserving healthy family dynamics.

Keeping an urn of cremated remains in a household can become stressful as families evolve and circumstances change.

Comfort

When cremains become part of the beauty of nature, family members and friends who live far from each other and far from the settling site may feel a comforting connection when visiting their local park or garden.

You can help your family with the painful “letting go” process. Tell your family that you want your settlement handled by the professionals of Parkland Peace.

Service Options

“That they may become part of the beauty of nature, our service is to transition cremains from storage to sunlight.”

STANDARD SERVICE

As your representative, a Parkland Peace officer will settle cremains in a park or estate in our nationwide network. Cremains will be removed from the container and gently broadcast upon the land. Parkland terrain will be unchanged, save for the presence of the final matter that will soon blend with nature. Burial of cremains is an option within private estates in our network.

The standard settling service may be performed in respectful silence. Or, it may include messages from loved ones in the form of letters for the officer to read aloud or as a recorded presentation of music and words. No marker or items may be left at the scene in parklands. A marker is a possibility in private estates in our network. Please discuss your idea with us. Settling service duration is forty-five minutes, inclusive of the walk time to-and-from the Parkland Peace vehicle to the settling site. Additional time may be available, at the rate of $25 per half-hour increment.

ALPHA PARKLAND

Unless otherwise specified, a settling site will be in parkland or estate chosen for you by the Parkland Peace team. The scenery may be of a lake shore, salt water coast, meandering creek, flowering meadow, woodland path or mountain trail. The release point will be readily accessible by car and pleasant walk. $125.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are "cremains"?

Cremated remains, called “cremains,” are the sand-like, pulverized, skeletal remains of the cremation process or the powdery bio-cremains of alkaline hydrolysis resomation.
Commonly referred to as ashes, they are inert. They have no properties that can contaminate the environment or be hazardous to the health of handlers.

How do I mail you my cremains?

It’s easy to do…

Only the United States Postal Service permits shipping of cremains. It is permitted by USPS through its Priority Mail Express service, following packaging guidelines.

USPS guidelines require both an inner and outer container. Each must be strong, durable, and sift-proof. You may use USPS Priority Mail Express boxes, which are free. The destination address must be on each container. USPS recommends using padding such as air bubble wrap to ensure that there is no movement of contents within either box, and to place the inner box within a sealed plastic bag before putting it into the outer container. The inner box may be the cardboard container of cremains from the crematory.

The destination address must be printed in block-style letters, or a Priority Mail Express label may be printed from your computer. Do not state on the container that the contents are cremated remains. That information is only needed on a customs declaration form for packages that are to be mailed to an international address.

Remember, cremains may be mailed to Parkland Peace ONLY through the U.S. Post Office. The container of cremains must be packaged as specified in the U.S. Postal Service Publication 139.

In the padded space between the inner and outer container, please place:

  • Payment
  • The Directives document from the footer of this website or the Petpetual Play Authorization from the footer of this website, whichever is appropriate for this matter (optional)
  • Recorded messages and/or letters to be read aloud during the settling ceremony (optional)

Address the package to the Parkland Peace office of your preference. We have a Northern & Southern headquarters. Please continue reading for instructions on both. For either location, please use the Directives form found in the footer of this website.

For settling through the SOUTHERN USA headquarters, mail the box to:

Parkland Peace – (832)206-4240
7007 River Mill Dr.
Spring, Texas 77379

Scenery at the settling site may be majestic woodlands, a hill country view, a fishing stream, a lake with bobbing boats, a prairie, mountains, or a meadow of wildflowers.

For settling through the NORTHERN USA headquarters, mail the box to:

Parkland Peace – (231)883-2921
6420 N. Manitou Trail
Northport, MI 49670

Scenery at the settling site may be the Sleeping Bear Dunes, a Great Lakes lighthouse, a floral carpet of Trillium in a forest, a cherry orchard, or a view of islands and ships in Lake Michigan.

What do you mean by "settle" cremains?

When we release cremains from a container and cast them into the air or water or spread them onto the land, we are settling them into nature. Settled cremains cannot be re-gathered and moved to another location once released from their container.

Is the settling site a sanctuary?

No. We select settling locations for their current beauty and suitability, but there is no assurance that the land will never be developed or used for any other purpose. We do not own or control the land in most instances of settling. We obtain permission or permits to perform this activity at choice locations.

May I influence where my loved one's cremains will be settled?

In order to keep the prices far below what other companies may charge, we must settle cremains in areas readily accessible to our team of officers. Each officer selects settling sites within a comfortable driving distance of his or her home and obtains permissions or permits from the property management.

On the Directives page that you will include when sending cremains, a specific destination may be specified. Requests will be accommodated if possible, meaning if we have a cremains officer based in an area that has the requested terrain. We will update the website each time we add or change a settling site that may be specified.

Currently, if you request “Mountains,” we have an officer in the Winchester Mountains of Arizona.

If you request “Shore,” we have officers on the Texas Gulf Coast and the shore of Lake Michigan. All officers except Jean, in Arizona, have ready access to inland lake shores.

The more that you tell us about the person whose cremains we are releasing, the better able we will be to select from our range of choices one that will be appropriate. We do not guarantee compliance with requests, for the officer in a particular area may relocate or no longer be active.

Would you settle cremains at a specific location or under certain conditions, if requested?

We will appreciate the opportunity to discuss a specific request with you.

Our low pricing is possible because we determine settling conditions and a site from our selections, each of which is readily accessible, permitted, and safe for our officers. We dedicate up-to one-half hour to settling a person’s cremains.

Specific Condition requests will be honored if possible, at Parkland Peace settling sites, and are charged at $75 each. A Specific Condition may include a time, such as dawn, weather, such as during a summer rain shower to try for a rainbow settling, or additional time, in half-hour increments.

Specific Location requests, for settling in a site that is not a Parkland Peace settling site, will be considered. The fee is a combination of a day rate, travel expenses, and permit fees if applicable. Please contact us to discuss the possibility.

May I witness the settling of my loved one's cremains?

You are welcome to come, participate, and photograph or videotape the event at a Parkland Peace settling site, with the understanding that you will leave no item or marking at the scene.

I want to release my loved one's cremated remains, at a place that was special to us, with assistance from a professional. Will a Parkland Peace officer assist me?

Yes. The Specific Location fee is a combination of a day rate, travel expenses, and permit fees if applicable. The officer will photograph or videotape the settling if you would like, at no extra charge, and will perform the settling if you change your mind about doing it yourself. Please contact us for a quote.

Would you release the cremains of two people together?

Yes, it will be our privilege to be of such assistance.

Would you settle the cremains of my household pet?

Yes. We will settle the cremains of household pets, with appreciation for the joy that they have brought to their families. The fee will be $25. If additional services such as visual recordings, witness, or certificate are requested, they are available at regular prices.

If the cremains of a household pet are settled along with the cremains of its owner, the pet fee will be waived.

I want closure, but do not have the cremains of my loved one to send to you. Would you perform a symbolic settling?

Yes, we would perform a Standard Settling Service (surface release) or a Family Estate burial, using sand or dirt that we would gather at the location and then settle at the same location. The fees will be half as if you had mailed cremains to us, and we will ask you to complete and mail us the Directives page from our website.
